Concept & Visual Language
Michael Leuffen, known as ML, is the journalist, DJ, and producer who shaped the editorial voice behind Carhartt WIP Radio. Alongside running the 150 Session radio show, first for Radio Cómeme and now for NTS Radio, he has released his own genre-bending work on labels like Termina, Accidental Meetings, and Kashual Plastik. When the monthly Carhartt WIP Radio format came to an end, the final show was dedicated to him and his work.
The artwork builds a vortex around the letters ML, positioned at the center of the composition in bold, layered outline type. Radiating outward, gestural streaks in blue and yellow suggest movement and pull the eye toward the center, echoing the visual language of past Carhartt WIP Radio artworks without directly quoting them. The references stay abstract, more felt than recognized, closer to a visual memory than a direct citation. The whole piece is built in flat 2D, keeping the vortex graphic and immediate rather than dimensional. In today's terms, it reads as a generative, archive-referencing composite: motion frozen into a single still, built to feel like a distilled memory of everything that came before it.
